This USB has .bat files. The link says "This hack works on Windows 2000, XP and Vista."

Not really Linux.

Seriously, why is this article here? It's basically a script kiddy hack of windows to get user passwords for email, IM , etc, when you have physical access to the hacked box.

It is here so you can show it to your windows using friends...

We don't need FUD to promote Linux. The facts speak for themselves.

Also some of the hacks involve Windows versions of popular open source software. Since they are open source someone should be able to develop a fix.

I bet all those files are trojans.

Probably not cross-platform trojans either.

Doggone it, when will malware writers adhere to standards, I'm tired of Linux being treated as second-class.

Unfortunately, the vulnerabilities in password storage for Firefox for example are probably cross platform...

softwarejanitor: Only partly. On Linux you'd only get the passwords of the user that runs the malware. All other users are safe because their profiles are in their own home directory and thus not readable.

@Sander_Marechal That is true, and obviously an advantage of a *nix like environment over Windows... but it would be better if people didn't save their passwords in browsers and other unsafe practices to begin with...

@softwarejanitor: Well, here's an idea. Develop a Firefox plugin that makes it store passwords in the standard Linux keyring instead of it's own store.
