I worked at Jiffy Lube for several years and we had a windows system. It required a daily shut down and even then the system would still sometimes randomly freeze, loose connection to one or more of the terminals, and all kinds of other randomness. Towards the end of my stay there they upgraded to the new version of the system and it required a fat client at each bay, rather spendy, it was marginally more stable, if you didn't forget to shut down the server each night. We probably lost about 50 cars a month due to system problems, which was a bit over 1 days worth of work in the slow shop that I worked in.

I think moving to a more stable base platform would of helped a lot.
