Or, alternatively, has anybody had luck running it under Wine.

My daughter's is orchestra and the teacher recommends SmartMusic, but...

It's Windows or Mac.

Sigh.

Unfortunately all the applications like that are for Windows or Mac. There's an application called Song Surgeon that I would like to use, but the bloke that owns it refuses to have it developed for Linux. It installs on Linux under WINE but won't run. I've tried to get him to work in with the WINE project, but he refuses to do even that.

I suggest you try it under WINE yourself.

From http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1056710

Page 2, to be precise:

"Smartmusic 2010 came out recently.

With Wine 1.0.1 Stable, Now it won't even start up at all

However! The latest Wine (1.1.28 ) will run it, and it runs well! I installed those packages that I mentioned above via Winetricks, and I'm using the OSS sound.

Still, though, no microphone luck. I only have a USB one, not an analog to test. If anyone comes by wanting to help test their analog mic, That would be lovely."

So at least an older version seems to work.

@ta:

Which version of Wine did you use?

1.4 is now in dev branch. 1.1.28 is *really, really* old. I wouldn't expect most things to run on that :D

Thanks, all.

I broke down and bought a student copy for my daughter and put it up in a VM.

Sigh.
