I am confused by this. Tablets already have a tailor made linux based OS namely Android. I have a Nexus 7 and I don't want to install Ubuntu just because I can. Android serves its purpose fine. If I want a full powered OS I don't want to run it on a portable small screened gadget. I want to run it on a system where using a word processor feels comfortable i.e. a desktop.

Ubuntu have got too obsessed by commercial trends (increasing tablet sales flat PC sales) and forgotten basic functional reality. Personally I think there is still a lot of interesting things you could do on a desktop.

The server/supercomputer market is dominated by Linux.

The tablet market is dominated by Android and iOS

The desktop market has a role and linux should be looking to win there as well.
