I didn't even hafta login. "Amazing". Sounds like there might be a couple OSS advocates lurking in the NYT subterrainia. Dya think we might see an enterprise shift in the NYT's future?

@notbob -- Nope. These days the NYT generously allows non-subscribers the privilege of reading 5 articles per month.

IP address? Web bugs (ie. 1-pixel transparent GIFs)?

You can generally get around it by coming in from Google (it's the main reason I still have google available, even though it's not my default search engine).

Blocking by IP address would affect people readers behind a proxied firewall (academia, libraries, coffee shops, etc.).
