Now we see the push for containers etc in systemd.

"So what kind of computer do you run?"

"Systemd."

So, Slackware appears more "Unix-like" every day.

I hear a lot of complaining -- the Debian Users mailing list is pretty much all anti-Systemd rants.

But how many of these people are going to make the move to FreeBSD (or even OpenBSD)? They take their Unix lineage a lot more seriously and won't be touching Systemd (except, in OpenBSD's case, to emulate it for compatibility's sake: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTc4MjQ).

If this puts more light and heat on the BSDs (and makes them more usable on the desktop), it'll be a very good thing -- diversity in Unix-like OSes is way better than a Linux monoculture.

Yes, it will be. But that's a pretty good sized if.

(LXer link to http://uselessd.darknedgy.net/ }

is the story that I found most interesting. If this keeps up, the biggest problems with systemd (both technical and organizational) should be avoidable.

B.S.,

Your post needs to be edited. The link has a space in the word module... between the o and the d. You should get a better link that goes directly to the article, if that was your intent. However, I suspect it was intended to go to a discussion this link fails to reach.

@TxtEdMacs

As far as I can tell, the link renders as intended (which it should, as it was a direct copy/paste).

I deliberately didn't link directly to the article, as I found it via the tuxchick's LXer submission, so that's what I linked to. I also thought that the subsequent discussion (if any) would more properly belong attached to that original story submission-link (which listed the direct url, and clicking on the "Full Story" link takes one to the referenced article, as well).

However, just in case others also found my approach confusing (I can see how that might be) , I've edited my own post above, to include the direct link to the article itself, as well.
