true, he does have a point that there is a problem though. having been on both ends of that stick i can sympathize. arguably, having a repository makes it easier to clone it (instead of searching all over the place and suffer random pieces getting lost) but the size of current repositories makes cloning an insurmountable task. we had to close the foresight distribution because the effort to host it was not worth the usage that we had. and if it's to much for a small distribution then forget about any single user effort. i don't see any alternatives however. decentralized repos? maybe something bittorrent based? anyone can easily host a part of it. but even bittorrent depends on people willing to keep hosting. if something is not popular, it disappears. greetings, eMBee. |
