Do you have something against pdf's dot? I clicked through to the article and the format didn't really bother me. Actually it never occurred to me that someone would object to a pdf. Years ago pdf was a proprietary format, but these days there are plenty of open viewers for the format. My favorite is qpdfview with evince coming in a close second place.

Nope.

It's just a bit surprising to be downloading a PDF instead of viewing html. A little [PDF] notice would remove the surprise... that's all.
