As this happens to be territory that I've explored quite thoroughly, I know that there's a quite bit more at stake than such a slim piece can convey.

To give the issues in brief: - yes it can be simple and reliable when only using the old (mostly 32bit) "BIOS" and MBR booting methods; - no, it can be fraught with problems on newer (64bit) systems with UEFI booting.

The risk with the latter can be that kernel updates will write to the wrong ESP (EFI System Partition). Hence my concern about a "warning".
