OpenMW is a free and open source engine for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. It aims to be a fully playable and improved implementation of the game's engine and functionality. OpenMW is released under the GNU General Public License version 3, and all source code has been written completely from scratch. It also builds on various other open source tools, most notably OGRE for graphics, and Bullet for collision (and possibly physics).

Most of the Unity Lenses and scopes, that adds extra functionality to dash menu have been updated to work with Ubuntu 12.04. Some lenses like Wikipedia lens are new releases. A Lens adds an extra new category to Unity dash allowing you to find specific results from local sources, web and even do calculations. A Scope adds a new source to an existing lens. For example, you can add Flickr scope as an extra source in Photo Lens.

Much awaited cloud storage service Google Drive is now live giving free 5 GB storage to every subscriber. The service can be accessed at drive.google.com. Google Drive supports over 30 types of files and the storage can be upgraded to a maximum of 16TB. A Linux client will be available soon for testing.

Linus Torvalds will be receiving Millennium Technology Award, one of the highest Technology Honors for his exceptional contribution to Linux kernel and open source.The Millennium Technology Prize is awarded ever two years for a technological innovation by Technology Academy Finland. This year, Linus Torvalds, Linux's creator, and Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, maker of a new way to create stem cells without the use of embryonic stem cells, are both laureates for the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize. The two innovators will share over a million Euros and the final winner will be announced by the President of the Republic of Finland in a special ceremony on June 13, 2012. Hibernate option is disabled by default in Ubuntu 12.04. Hibernate doesn't work in many cases with Ubuntu, so this decision was taken to avoid data loss/corruption that can happen when a user tries to hibernate his system. So if you are quite used to hibernate feature, you will have to rely on a workaround by manually editing some system files. There is no GUI option to enable/disable hibernate in Precise.

OpenTTD is a free and open source reimplementation of the Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" with lots of new features and enhancements. The game is quite popular among Linux gamers and can be played with free graphics files from the openttd-opengfx package and optional sound files from the openttd-opensfx package (which is non-free). These files can be downloaded from game itself.

Terasology (previously known as Blockmania) is a free and open source Minecraft inspired game engine involving procedural terrain generation and efficient rendering techniques in Java using the LWJGL. GIMP 2.8 will bring major new features including single-window mode, layer groups and on-canvas text editing. Just few days back, GIMP 2.8 RC1 was released which is probably last snapshot before final version 2.8 is available. GIMP PPA by Matt Walker has not been updated with latest packages yet. However, Strycore has created a handy script that will compile and install GIMP 2.8 RC1 without touching existing packages available in repositories.

Kickstarter is doing lots of good to Linux gaming as more and more developers are adding Linux support. We already had Double Fine Adventure and Wasteland 2 and now Shadowrun Returns, which has been fully funded in 28 hours ($400k) will most likely come to Linux as well. Jordan Weisman has kickstarted Shadowrun Returns, a graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat. The game is sequel to popular cyberpunk RPG 'Shadowrun' created by Weisman and released way back in 1989. Shadowrun Returns has generated over $500k so far with 11K+ backers.

Skeltrack is a Free and Open Source Software library by Igalia for tracking the human skeleton joints from depth images. It is implemented with GLib and uses plain mathematics to detect the human skeleton and although it does not use any database, it was inspired by Andreas Baak's paper: A Data-Driven Approach for Real-Time Full Body Pose Reconstruction from a Depth Camera. Skeltrack devs have recorded very cool videos showing Gnome Shell and Linux games being controlled through gestures.
