Xubuntu 9.0.4 ScreenShots Beta

My 2nd set of ScreenShots, this time it is Xubuntu 9.0.4 Beta based on the New Jaunty Jackalope Beta Release of Ubuntu 9.0.4. I absolutely love Xubuntu since it uses the very light and efficient Xfce 4.6. Granted usually I am praising the fancier Ubuntu based distros, but I do love the simpleness and the fast loading of Applicationsin Xubuntu. Xubuntu also comes with Abiword and Gnumeric, which is the equivalent of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. The other Ubuntu based distro's have been coming with Open Office 2.4 or Open Office 3.0

Kubuntu 9.0.4 ScreenShots Beta

Here is my first of many ScreenShots of the 9.0.4 beta Jaunty Jackalope series of ubuntu Based Distros. Enjoy the screen shots below...

Parsix 2.0 ScreenShots, Lean and Beautiful

Parsix is a beautiful OS which is derived off of Kanotix and based off of Debian. The install was quite simple and intuitive, though not as simple as Ubuntu based distributions. What grabbed my attention immediately was the beautiful artwork that was part of the default LiveCD and the Install. Also, the install came with a lot of nice apps that are quite useful, though Parsix was not bloated like some other distributions tend to be.

ZenWalk 6.0 Gnome ScreenShots

Last time I did Screen Shots of ZenWalk, was the 5.2 beta release. Now, not much has change since the 5.2 release as far as the UI is concerned. But other changes have been made... One thing I noticed immediately, was that the installer was simpler and faster.

HowTo Check ESX Datastores using Python and CIM

Good Afternoon guys, here I created another Python Script. This script will check your DataStores aka VMFS. I built this script so that it can be used with Nagios and or Zenoss. The purpose of this script is so that you can monitor thresholds on a per DataStore/VMFS. You will need to download and install Pywbem in order to use this script

HowTo List DataStores on VMware using Python and CIM

Here I created another Python script using Pywbem to get the Storage Pools from ESX. In this script you can get the disk utilisation statistics from each datastore or from a particular datastore. Examples below...

HowTo List Virtual Machines using Python and CIM Part 1

Good morning my fellow Admins, Engineers, Scripters, Programmers, etc..... YOU GET THE IDEA :). For the past week, I have been learning all about the CIM and WBEM API. Since I am working alot more then I have ever have with VMware. I am trying to automate as much as possible with out using Perl. Now please do not think I am hating on Perl, it is not that at all, it is just the fact that I love Python, thats all! That being said here is the 1st part in a 2 part series on Listing Virtual Machines using Pywbem in Python. I the 1st part I will show you how to list Virtual Machines and data related to those VMs. Example Below...

OpenGEU 8.10 ScreenShots from Install to Beauty

OpenGEU 8.10..... All I can say is WOW, what a A beautiful Desktop! I mean I never realized how beautiful Enlightenment really is. And the way you can download the preconfigured themes. You also have all the great features of Ubuntu just with the added beauty of Enlightenment as well as a cool Enlightenment Manager. Enjoy the screenshots below!!!

Monitoring Apache logs using Python

Apache, among many other httpds, can be configured to log to an executable's STDIN instead of a file. But older Apaches, again like other httpds, won't let you pipe that programme's output to another's input, so you're limited to whatever the one was made to do.* httpd error logs often contain error conditions one wants to be alerted about, but for most people that means either monitoring it with some variant of tailf running on the host, or sshing to the host to run tail (or tail -f) on the log, piped to egrep, etcetera. This kind of set-up can work fine for one or two web servers, but gets cumbersome when you have more than just a few, and can become impracticable when dealing with many or when the error logs are being written to frequently.

Debian 5.0 ScreenShots

So it has been a while since I have posted ScreenShots of any distribution lately. So I decided to start it off with the new and improved Debian 5.0. Now I have not used Debian in quite a long time ( Not counting Ubuntu based distro's ). But the last time I installed Debian, it had just a menu base install. Well guess what????? Not any more!!! Debian has joined the world of Linux Gui Installers ( Also has the option for the menu based installation as well, for those of you who need it :) ).. I am personally glad to see that they have joined everyone else.

How to add multiple datapoints in Zenoss the Easy Way.

Recently I had to input quite a few OID's into Zenoss. This meant I had to create a Data Source for each OID I wanted to monitor as well as one Data Point. Now I knew this was going to be a hassle!!! So I decided to write a custom Python script that uses pysnmp to essentially do a snmpwalk (nextCmd) on a Branch of OID's. This means that I can create one Data Source and Mutiple Data Points. Which drops the amount of time that I have to input into the Zenoss GUI.

Progex 8.20 ScreenShots

Here is a fairly new Linux distribution and like many new ones out there this distribution is based off of Ubuntu Linux. The installation was just an easy 7 steps just as most other Ubuntu based distributions. What makes this distribution stand out is the fact that most of the necessary Media Apps and Codecs are already installed for you so you do not have to do that for your self.

Linux Mint 6 RC1 ScreenShots and Review

I must say Linux Mint seems to always impress me with every new release. In this release Linux Mint has brought to us a new software manager called MintInstall, which allows you to browse the Mint Software portal offline, see screenshots that are available per package, and much more. Linux Mint has also brought you MintNanny, which allows you to control what domains are blocked.

Dream Linux 3.5 RC1 ScreenShots

As for my opinion on DreamLinux 3.1... I thought it was very nice on they eyes, Based off of Debian, its own Control Panel, and I must say I do love the Icons.. Also my opinion is so that "Whatever Linux Distro I use for my desktop...... I should NOT have to spend HOURS tailor fitting it to my needs." As I am beyond that stage. That is not to say that you are beyond that stage, you might still be in love with finding packages and doing the "configure/make/make install" and finding all of its dependencies...

Puppy Linux 4.1 Retro ScreenShots

I was very pleased with Puppy Linux 4.1! The interface was smooth and easy to use. Not to mention all the necessary apps that came in this tiny distribution. The install could have been easier but hey sometimes you can not have your cake and eat it too.

Linux and your worth in the Job Market

The problem these days is that the Linux SA's which WERE and ARE still highly regarded, are being flooded with LAZY admins that have and continue to flood the Networking and Microsoft world. In the past year I have met a few interesting Microsoft Engineers who actually knew the product very well besides the normal right click and actually knew how to script and automate ( This baffled me ).

Using expect to find a MAC Address on a CISCO IOS Switch

Have you had the need to find a port on a switch that a box is plugged into?? This script will help you do it in a automated fashion.

Elive 1.9.10 ScreenShots and Review

This is our first ScreenShot review of Elive Linux! I just want to say congratulation to the Elive Linux team for making such a sweet desktop OS. I have used Enlightenment in the past but not as much as I have used Gnome. From trying out Enlightenment just a few seconds ago it was amazingly fast and quite east to navigate, with just clicking once on the desktop the Enlightenment menu appears.

PCLinuxOS 2009 Beta ScreenShots and Review

Our first ScreenShot review of PCLinuxOS 2009 Beta. My first thoughts is that WoW PCLinuxOS uses the apt-get Debian utility for its package management system as well as the Control Center from Mandrake. The best of 2 worlds! Also PCLinuxOS makes sure that Java and Flash is already integrated into the standard install so that the new Linux user will not be able to say I do not know what to do when they go to there sites and are not able to load web applications.

Zonbu ScreenShots, This Linux OS is a new refreshing welcome to Windows users who want to use Linux.

Another fairly new Linux Distro to review. First thing I have to say is that this distro is based off of Gentoo Linux and it is one of the faster LiveDVD distros that I have loaded up2date. Every application loaded up extremely fast. The icons made this distro very nice on the eyes. The extremely quick responsiveness for a live distro was amazing! This Linux OS is perfect for Windows users who want the online accessibility of the MAC. This distro is not for experienced Linux admins what soever!!!! You do not have root access if you install the OS, since it is locked down. You will have to add options to the GRUB boot loader to get root access.
