With the final release of Samba 4.2, the last series of Samba 3 has been discontinued! People still running 3.6.x or earlier,should consider moving to a more recent and maintained version (4.0 - 4.2).

Google will not have to pay Oracle anything for violating 37 Java copyrights, because they are not copyrightable, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

The jury is out on the issue of patent infringement, and the instructions issued to the jury (1153 [PDF; Text])are more favorable to Google than originally drafted. Gone are the references to "blind willfulness" and included are the definitions more favorable to Google than to Oracle. The Special Verdict Form (Text) is shortened as well given that the parties stipulated to indirect infringement on a finding of direct infringement.

I thought you'd like to see the Oracle motion that the Hon. William Alsup denied Wednesday, after a couple of hours of oral argument. I see at least one person tweeting that the judge has ruled that APIs are not copyrightable. He hasn't ruled on that yet. This was something else. You can read about the judge's ruling here.

What he did rule on were two motions for judgment as a matter of law.

Facebook's re-written PHP to transform the dynamic language for fast performance on web-scale server farms without adding additional hardware. The site's engineers have announced HipHop, which turns the popular and dynamic PHP code into highly optimized but static C++ and then compiles it using the GNU C++ compiler, g++. The change has been released to the community under the PHP license, and you can read more here.
