This how-to article overviews LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) and its main advantages when used alongside your existing mail server. The example chosen to further explain benefits of such an implementation is of an OpenLDAP server configured for the AXIGEN Mail Server on a Debian 3.1 Linux distribution.
Sarah Romero of LaFlecha.net interviews Mozilla Europe President Tristan Nitot.
Earlier this week, the GNU project announced a major release of the popular GNU Compiler Collection. GCC 4.2.0 introduces new features and several improvements for developers, but most of the distribution developers we spoke with aren't rushing to take advantage of the new release.
Last week, Red Hat announced the release of three Liberation typefaces as free replacements for the Windows core fonts Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman -- respectively, the leading sans serif, monospaced, and serif fonts in use today.
Get rich multimedia services across next generation packet-switched and traditional circuit-switched networks with

"The MS guys were hammering at him pretty hard to get it done and it was going to cost him a fortune. We went in there, changed them over to Debian Servers and desktops, spent the day showing them how the it worked and haven't heard a peep out of them since."
The last time we had looked at the performance of Intel's integrated graphics under Linux with their open-source driver was back in February when testing the GMA 3000 IGP using an Intel DQ965GFEKR motherboard. However, with display drivers constantly improving, we recently carried out some additional Intel Q965 graphics tests along with comparing these numbers to discrete graphics solutions from AMD/ATI and NVIDIA.
A chance encounter with a Linux-based laptop started South Carolina-based radio communications dealer Voicelink Communications on the path to replacing almost its entire range of Windows-based productivity and desktop software with free and open source software (FOSS).
That headline is designed to grab your attention. Sensationalistic as it may be, it also happens to be true, if what you mean by 'terrorize' is to provoke fear.
Due to concern over the effect of Stephan Gregoire’s injury in yesterday’s practice session and how it may affect our participation in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 27, we thought it would be helpful to clarify the qualifying procedure for the race and explain why there is little reason for concern regarding our participation as a result of this incident.
Search Status is a great Firefox extension that provides a handful of additional information on any site you're visiting at the time, including the page's Google and Alexa rankings.
[I use this extension but Alexa's rankings are not as accurate as I would like. - Scott]
WordPress plugins abound for Google AdSense and other third-party text ad brokers, but what happens when someone wants to buy ad space directly from you, on a specific category page in your blog? You can easily add static HTML text ads to your category search result pages by creating category-specific page templates.
Every time you use Google you're using Linux. So says Google programs manager Chris DiBona in a wide ranging interview that also touches, naturally, on the Microsoft patent threats and what it means for businesses like Google.
This article will guide you through the entire process of setting up a secure website using SSL and digital certificates. This guide assumes that you already have a fully functional (and configured) server running Apache, BIND, and OpenSSL. Just as a side note, this guide was written based on a Fedora Core 6 distribution, but should be the same for most other distros out there.
With the recent release of Debian Etch, the Debian-Med project strengthened its current three main areas of activity: imaging, bioinformatics, and medical practice. Progresses are summarized on the Debian web site and in this articlehere.
So when I read about Microsoft's General Counsel Brad Smith telling Fortune magazine about the 235 Microsoft patents upon which Linux is supposedly infringing, my first question was why? My next question was, why now? The timing of this bit of FUD has me very curious. As in comedy, timing can be very important in business. So why is it that, after trying this exact same line of FUD in 2004, Microsoft is trying again?
I've been doing a fair amount of documenting on Flash related technologies and have considered dabbling in ActionScript (if you know JavaScript, you have at least a leg up on learning ActionScript) so I thought it was time to stretch into the arena of Flex 2. I found the concept of Flex to be a bit confusing at first. After all, if Flex builds Flash applications and Flash CS3 Professional builds Flash applications, why use one over the other? Since ActionScript is the scripting language underneath both development platforms, what's the difference? Naive questions I know, but they're answered in Programming Flex 2.
This alliance will compete directly in the Linux Desktop marketplace
LXer Feature: 18-May-2007 LXer inquired about Google's advertising program to find out why Google ads show up with the words "Dell Linux Desktop", even though Dell hasn't yet launched its line of Ubuntu-based computers, and whether Google considers the practice misleading. Can Dell fix the misleading advertising problem?
With the help of My First Mutt, I figured out how to import POP mail into mutt: To browse a POP3 mailbox, just hit c to change mailboxes. Then, instead of typing the name of a local mailbox, you can enter the location of your POP3 server. This is much like typing the URL for a page in a web-browser: pop://username@mail.example.com/
