DistroWatch reports - The GNOPPIX project has released an Ubuntu-based live CD with a preview release of Gnome 2.12: The GNOPPIX project proudly presents the first beta release of version 2.12 of the GNOPPIX Linux live CD. This version comes with Gnome 2.12, updates and lot of improvements. Gnoppix 2.12 beta1 is available in four languages: German, English, French and Hindi.

This will be the last Colony CD release before the Breezy preview, so any testing you can provide is appreciated. If you test it, be sure to send us a report to ubuntu-devel at lists.ubuntu.com. Significant installer changes since Colony 3 include: many fixes to the live CD, including usplash integration; GRUB tries harder to boot even when the BIOS fails to pass a boot drive; APT configuration when the network is unavailable should now be much faster...

KDE Light Screenshot Tour

gnulinux.de states - KDE light is a combination of several open source components that all togehter form a complete desktop environment. The main part of KDE light is kdesktop, which is responsible for drawing the desktop background and icons. As windowmanager we use openbox, because it´s very lightweight and easy to handle. To provide a kicker like panel, we have modified the gtk+ based fbpanel. We tried to provide a continuous look & feel on all, QT and GTK based applications.

Mandriva Linux 2006-0.1.1 Beta Screenshot Tour

Like the first one a week ago, the new beta release, labelled as 2006 0.1.1, has not yet been officially announced, but the good news is that the mirroring problems we mentioned in last week's DistroWatch Weekly have been solved and the new release is now available from the usual Mandriva mirror sites.

KNOPPIX 4.0 Screenshot Tour

Distrowatch reports - Presented for the first time yesterday at Linux Tag in Karlsruhe, the much awaited "Live DVD" edition of KNOPPIX 4.0 is now available as a BitTorrent download from several sources. The new version contains over 4 GB of compressed files or over 2,600 packages, including the full KDE 3.4.1 and GNOME 2.8.1 desktop environments, OpenOffice.org 2.0 beta, and the usual array of server, development and multimedia applications.

Ubuntu Linux 5.10 Colony 1 Released

The first development release of Ubuntu Linux 5.10, code name "Breezy Badger", is now available for testing. Colony CD 1 is the first in a series of milestone CD images that will be released throughout the Breezy development cycle, as images that are known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD-build or installer bugs, while representing very current snapshots of Breezy.

Screenshot Tour for LiveCD GoblinX

Osdir.com published a screenshot tour for livecd GoblinX, a bootable "live CD" distribution based on Slackware Linux, whose primary goal is to create a more pleasant and functional desktop, standardizing all icons and themes to make it easy for novice users to learn about available applications.
