40 of the best open source server apps as free ready-to-use Ubuntu appliances

TurnKey Linux, an Ubuntu based project, recently announced its largest release to date, which includes 25 new additions to its free virtual appliance library featuring some of the world's best open source software. Support has been added for Amazon EC2 cloud and the OVF virtual appliance format.

The project which already supported many popular open source applications including WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Ruby on Rails, LAMP and Django has expanded its virtual appliance library to include:



In addition to the installable Live CD ISO format, all appliances are now packaged in a standard virtual appliance format that can run directly on a virtual machine with no installation necessary.



Appliances have also been ported to a Amazon's AMI format, making it possible to launch TurnKey Linux appliances directly into Amazon's EC2 cloud. Amazon supports hourly billing which at $0.1/hour opens up a variety of interesting use cases.
