The following Linux-based operating systems have been announced last week: Parted Magic 6.3, Sabayon Linux 6 Core Editions and Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 2. In other news: Canonical changed the release schedule for the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) by delaying Alpha 2 with a week; Softpedia announced that starting with Alpha 2 of Ubuntu 11.10 the default mail client is Mozilla Thunderbird 5.0; the KDE developers unleashed KDE Software Compilation 4.6.5; Canonical announced the schedule of this year's second Ubuntu Developer Week event.
