RapidDisk is an advanced Linux RAM Disk which consists of a collection of modules and an administration tool. Features include: Dynamically allocate RAM as block device. Use them as stand alone disk drives or even map them as caching nodes to slower local disk drives.

RapidDisk is an advanced Linux RAM Disk which consists of a collection of modules and an administration tool. Features include: Dynamically allocate RAM as block device. Use them as stand alone disk drives or even map them as caching nodes to slower local disk drives.

The official project site has now been updated with new performance numbers tested on more recent 64-bit hardware (3.1 GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core processor) under a 64-bit installation of Ubuntu Server 12.04. To give you a rough idea of the numbers we are looking at...

Just to a RapidDisk rxdsk node: 1 MB xfer size to a 1GB file with a 32 queue depth averaged 3.2 GB/s for all sequential/random read/write operations. 4 KB xfer size to a 1GB file with a 32 queue depth averaged 1.5 GB/s for all sequential/random read/write operations.

Using a RapidCache mapping to map an rxdsk node to a 7.2k RPM 3Gb SATA drive: 4 KB xfer size to a 32 MB file with a 32 queue depth averaged - Sequential Read: 800 MB/s Random Read: 860 MB/s Sequential Write: 70 MB/s Random Write: 3 MB/s

Without any mappings and reading/writing to the same physical SATA drive: 4 KB xfer size to a 32 MB file with a 32 queue depth averaged - Sequential Read: 105 MB/s Random Read: 8 MB/s Sequential Write: 70 MB/s Random Write: 3 MB/s
