Fehlstart, I believe, is a relatively unknown little gem. A real beauty if your looking for nice but truly lightweight launcher. Fehlstart is a German word meaning “false start” also defined as an “early start”. The author wrote Fehlstart because gnome-do and others do way more than what he needed; gnome-do runs on mono which requires too many resources to perform a simple task like application launching.

Fehlstart, in my testing, always used half or better the ram of similar programs such as Gnome-Do, Synapse or Kupfer. In their defense however Fehlstart is “a simple application launcher, and that's all it is. No tweeting, no file management, no nothin' that ain't launchin'.” A set hotkey combination (ctrl + z in LXLE) brings up a small dialog box with a magnifying glass icon simply asking the user to “type something”. Once you begin to enter the any part of the name or acronym of the program you want to launch it auto-complete and its icon/name appears in front of you.
