Pydio has released version 6.0 of its open source file sharing platform. Pydio 6.0 delivers the most workable solution to date for corporate IT departments and developers seeking a controlled, open source alternative to consumer cloud services such as Dropbox.

Pydio 6.0 is the first open source file sharing solution to deliver tight control of information on the scale demanded by enterprises and service providers, and to combine this with the same intuitive ease-of-use found in modern consumer apps and cloud services.

Formerly known as AjaXplorer, Pydio is the most established open source project in the file sharing space. Pydio 6.0 completely reinvents the user-experience, to focus on common day-to-day tasks. Saving and sharing files is now simple and intuitive for any new user. Short video guides for sharing options are embedded into the user interface. The platform’s wealth of deeper, enterprise-focused features are still available for power-users and system administrators, but these have been moved to a second level to avoid confusing the majority of users.

With full functionality licensed under the AGPL, Pydio also provides the perfect solution for developers looking to build intuitive multi-platform file sharing into their own products or cloud service offerings.

“Whether applications are installed in-house or delivered as hosted, cloud services, customers now expect to be able to work on the same content across multiple devices,” explains Charles du Jeu, Pydio CTO and founder of the original open source project. “Pydio, provides developers with a ready-made, open source solution for integrating different client applications (PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, etc.) into a unified, multi-device platform.”

Release Details

Pydio is launching the full-featured Community Edition of Pydio 6.0. The company is also offering limited, application only, access to its Enterprise Early Adopter Program. Full enterprise support is planned for the Enterprise Edition launch in early 2015.
