Fully Automated System Capable of Rapid Expansion From the article: "The HD system installed was the first D-Series(TM) version 4.0 (running on the Linux platform) in the world."

SINGAPORE, June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) today announced a major contract with SKY PerfecTV!, Japan, to supply and install an HD version of the Harris H-Class(TM) D-Series(TM) Playout Automation application and H-Class(TM) Media Ingest application for the SKY PerfecTV! on-air operation. The order was placed through the Harris Japanese distributor, ITOCHU Cable Systems Corp., a leading systems integrator in Japanese cable TV, broadband and broadcast media.

SKY PerfecTV! is one of Japan's leading direct-to-home satellite services with over three million viewers, giving it a more than 35-percent share of the Japanese pay TV market.

SKY PerfecTV! initially purchased the D-Series Playout Automation solution to control six playout channels, a number of different routing systems, Sony FlexiCarts, Pinnacle servers, subtitling and multiple keying levels using Miranda equipment. Based on the system's reliability, SKY PerfecTV! carried out further technical reviews that led to the current system expansion.

A key feature of the D-Series Playout Automation solution is its scalability, which allows the expansion of the number of channels under its control to be up into the hundreds, scaling as a broadcaster's requirements grow.

The HD system installed was the first D-Series(TM) version 4.0 (running on the Linux platform) in the world. The system sits independently of the existing 15 SD channels, runs Omneon servers for HD encoding and a Front Porch DIVA archiving system.

The system provides redundancy from ground level up to the satellite. "We designed an automation solution for SKY PerfecTV! in such a way that if it were to lose any part of the architecture on either side -- from satellite to transmission -- it would have a fully mirrored path allowing the functioning side to take all the failed channels and run without disruption," explains Joe Khodeir, president of Harris Broadcast Communications Asia Pacific operations. "This gives SKY PerfecTV! redundancy across their whole bandwidth, which also allows us to isolate any issue for maintenance. All involved in the SKY PerfecTV! project are delighted with the performance and development of the D- Series Playout Automation solution."
