CodeWeavers have released their 6th iteration of their CrossOver application suite. It comes in different flavors, Linux, MacOS and Linux Server edition.

This is the 6th iteration of the CrossOver application. In this version, they have improved support for 3D acceleration, gaming, better compatibility support for application such as Microsoft Office 2003. They have a free 30 days trial demo, that is well worth downloading to test it out. I'm looking forward to installing World of Warcraft on Linux (x86_64). Erik B

World's Most Popular Windows-to-Linux Porting Technology Now Adding Substantially Better Support for Games

SAINT PAUL, MN - (January 9, 2007) - CodeWeavers, Inc., the leading Windows-to-Linux software developer, today announced the release of CrossOver Linux 6.0, its latest upgrade to the number one product for running Windows applications natively within the Linux operating system. Incorporating substantially improved support for many popular games, including World of Warcraft and many Steam titles (such as Half-Life 2 and Counterstrike), CrossOver Linux now offers Linux users more flexibility than ever to run the Windows applications they need.

CrossOver Office has become the essential productivity utility for millions of Linux users around the world by supporting the seamless, dependable installation and operation of scores of top-name Windows applications natively within Linux. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Visio, and Internet Explorer, as well as Adobe's Photoshop, Macromedia's Dreamweaver, Intuit's Quicken and QuickBooks, and Lotus Notes, are just some of the many popular business and productivity applications that can be used on Linux desktops via CrossOver Office. Now, with 6.0, CodeWeavers intends to bring that same reliability to the gaming market.

"CrossOver Linux 6.0 is another major jump forward for the Windows-to-Linux movement. With this release, we intend to step boldy into the gaming space and give our customers a more complete compatability experience," said Jeremy White, chief executive officer of CodeWeavers. "Leveraging the good work of both CodeWeavers' own developers, and the open-soure Wine community, we're now able to offer substantially better games support than we've ever been able to before."

New Games Capability
World of Warcraft, the most popular MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) is a cornerstone of this effort. "World of Warcraft is an immensely popular title, with millions of players around the world, including many in our core markets," White noted. "We feel that it's important to provide quality support for game titles such as this, and we've labored to provide a very high-quality level of playability under our product for World of Warcraft, as the shattered productivity of our own office can attest!"

Better Support for Existing Applications, Too
In addition, CodeWeavers has also honed its support for such popular productivity applications such as Office 2003. CrossOver now supports native connections to Exchange Servers via MS Outlook. In addition, products such as MS Project® 2003 and MS Visio® 2003 are now supported.

Product Renamed from CrossOver Office to CrossOver Linux
CodeWeavers' flagship Linux compatability tool had heretofore been known as CrossOver Office. However, with the simultaneous release of CodeWeavers CrossOver Mac product at MacWorld in San Francisco, the company has clarified the naming of its products to indicate the specific platform supported; hence the retirement of the CrossOver Office name and the creation of CrossOver Linux and CrossOver Mac.

Pricing, Discounts
CrossOver Linux 6.0 Standard is now available for $39.95. CrossOver Linux 6.0 Professional, the enterprise version of the product, is priced at $69.95, with volume discounts available. To download any of the CrossOver Linux family of products, or to learn more, visit http://www.codeweavers.com.
