List of Companies that Pay Royalties to Microsoft for Using Android OS
According to Microsoft, Google's Android OS is infringing on many of its patents and hence those manufacturers who use Android for their devices owe royalties to Microsoft. But the intriguing fact is that, instead of suing Google itself for infringing on its patents, Microsoft is finding it easy to sue or threaten smaller firms which don't have the financial muscle to fight a legal battle with the Redmond giant. Following is the list of companies who are already paying royalties or being sued by Microsoft for using Android.
Archiving CDs to ISO from the commandline
A few weeks ago I was working on a PC when I needed to grab the motherboard driver CD. In a perfect world, the CD would be located in a nice protective sleeve, safely kept away from the nasty elements that encompass the IT tech area (read: coffee, scratches, and the occasional jelly doughnut). But in this case, it appeared someone had taken this CD and wiped it.

Enabling Compiz Fusion On An Ubuntu Classic 11.04 Desktop (GNOME)
This tutorial shows how you can enable Compiz Fusion on an Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) desktop with the classic GNOME interface, i.e., no Unity (the system must have a 3D-capable graphics card - I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce 8200 here). With Compiz Fusion you can use beautiful 3D effects like wobbly windows or a desktop cube on your desktop.
Seven Months of Bodhi Linux in Pictures
Bodhi Linux is still a fairly young project. We gained a good bit of recognition for providing a usable Enlightenment desktop while many others still do not (if they offer one at all). We started back in just November of last year, but the project has matured a good deal in just this short bit of time. The following are screen shots (and some history) from the nine developmental and two stable releases we have had during the last seven months.
The dd command on Linux terminal.
dd seem an unfriendly command, but if you start to use it, you’ll see that it’s a powerful command able to do many different things, backup a partition, CD or USB stick for example or do some simple tests on the speed of your disks or your CPU. The man page says: dd is an application that will “convert and copy a file” But let’s see some trick with it.

This week at LWN: PCIe, power management, and problematic BIOSes
Back in April, Phoronix announced with some fanfare that the 2.6.38 kernel - and those following - had a "major" power management regression which significantly reduced battery life on some systems. This problem has generated a fair amount of discussion, including this Launchpad thread, but little in the way of solutions. Phoronix now claims to have located the change that caused the problem and has provided a workaround which will make things better for some users. But a true fix may be a while in coming.

The versioning of Mozilla’s Firefox web browser, and the rebranded Iceweasel browser in Debian, going from 3.6.x to 4.x and now 5.x and 6.x has Linux users (and Debian users in particular) constantly messing with their sources to make sure they’ve got the version of Iceweasel they want. As I explain below, the Debian Mozilla team APT archive has got you covered. But first a little more informational whining.
How To Set Up And Integrate An Ubuntu 10.04 LTSPv5 Server Into A Windows 2008 Active Directory Domain
With the current economic conditions, companies have been trying to do more with less by recycling old hardware and utilizing open source software. That's also true where I work. Between our call center, finance, distribution, warehouse, and sales departments over 50% of the company's employees are running on RHEL4 LTSP thin clients. Recently it was decided to update our LTSP environment from RHEL4 to Ubuntu 10.04 with LTSPv5. Using the following steps, I was able to set up and integrate an Ubuntu 10.04 LTSPv5 server into a Windows 2008 Active Directory domain.
