I put Lubuntu on one of my net books, and MAN, it flies on the little thing!!! The machine is an underpowered ASUS 702 8GB SSD model, from the original run of ASUS netbooks. It behaves like a higher end machine, now.

I believe I've found my Ubuntu replacement. It works with Compiz & Cairo-dock,... and it gets out of its own way. I have to explore changing the login manager, and explore how well it works in setting "margins" for dealing with overscan on HDMI TVs (for other machines),... but that's about it...

I didn't know you could get sftp/ftp in the PCManFM file manager. But you can.
