A couple years ago, (or longer), there were claims or insinuations from a former OpenBSD programmer that he had inserted backdoors into the code. Theo and others then did a full audit of the entire base. They found nothing. But, before the audit, they couldn't be 100% sure. And, you can't get more open source than the BSDs.
