I've sent a similar message to LXer through the "Contact" page, but no response yet. Here's what is happening, these are my findings:

Some URLs get lost, rejected, not saved, whatever, based on some sort of credentials -- or PHP condition statement rather. I don't have the source code so I don't know what said conditions are, but I've noticed if you enter a URL that starts with "https:// " instead of "http:// " and hit "Preview" the URL doesn't carry over in the "Link to external article" field on the preview page and (presumable) not on the final submission either.

There are other characters that will cause this as well, such as "%E2%80%94" which is the way "—" appears in URLs when copied and pasted from a browser location bar.

i can confirm that, https links disappear. urls with "%E2%80%94" or "—" stay, but they get a space inserted.

greetings, eMBee.
