?I have always been a Ubuntu guy. I use Ubuntu or some other derivatives like Mint or elementary but never have I tried Debian. Well not anymore. I tested Debian and I must say I really like it. The thing with Debian is that stability is prioritized over all other factors. So if you are looking for the latest updates to packages, Debian is not the one. Debian is very popular amongst Linux users and rightly so. It enjoys a very superior community support compared to many other distros and most importantly the stability. So my experience? Recently Ubuntu has been the talk of the town due to Mark shuttleworth's announcement on discontinuation of Unity 8 development. Now there is another news coming from Ubuntu which is the release of codename of its upcoming Ubuntu version, i.e. Ubuntu 17.10. It's Artful Aardvark!

?So for a distro hopper like me, one very useful tool is USB-ISO-MAKER. I always need to have these tools at my disposal as I am always testing out distros. For a long time, I have resorted to Rufus on Microsoft Windows as my most trusted USB ISO MAKER, and for all these times, I must confess, it has served me well. But the problem with Rufus, it requires Windows. So I have been looking for similar tools on Linux but they always seem to be unreliable sometime. The very popular Unetbootin works most of the time but it is in no way as robust as Rufus. There is also dd which is a command line utility but sometimes I do really prefer a GUI and dd can be devastating if you are not very careful. But then there was Etcher. As Mark Shuttleworth announced the discontinuation of Unity8 project, unity users have started asking many questions. One of the questions is 'Is unity dead?'. We have seen so many projects discontinued and then after sometime somebody else from the community takes the charge and continue the development. The same is going to happen with Unity. Somebody has decided to develop Unity8 fork and looking for a name.

When I switched to Linux, I remember the first two months I used Ubuntu. Later on to ease the path of learning Linux, I started using Linux Mint. Today, I use Ubuntu and most of my life is around its derivatves. Yesterday, I was shocked when I read that Ubuntu is no more going to invest into Unity8 development and the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will ship with GNOME. It really broke my heart.
