Well lets give it a try, 1. What to say if your kids can't play there favorite windows games anymore.

why Linux MCE is superior to windows MCE

Linux MCE is superior to windows MCE * Cost The number one reason for choosing Linux, people have reported building a Linux media center with $400 total cost. Top that! Of course if you have unlimited budget this is not an argument. On the other hand what can be defined as unlimited? With equal money you will always be capable of building more. That's why big movie studios use Linux. * A whole house media system build with cheap diskless hardware Have some old PC's laying around? You can use them as pxe bootable thin clients for your Linux MCE system, most cheap graphics cards support tv out for a while now. Make a pc pxe bootable over the network and use it as a media director. And you can have one master system serving media throughout the whole house.

10 cool things you can do with Linux and not with windows

Things you can do with Linux and not with windows Some people install windows on their netbook (or buy one with windows). I think this is not very smart because the only things you could ever really need windows for (games and photoshop) are not likely to run very well on these things. Following a list of some of the things you can do with Linux and not on windows (or very difficult)

10 things you need to know about Linux if you are coming from windows

Sometimes I get frustrated with Linux, this happens mainly while installing. Installing is often one of the most frustrating experiences with Linux. I remember a time where this kept me from using Linux at all. Today I had such a day again after a long time, I was installing Ubuntu on a laptop which had a harddisk replaced and for the second time in a row the installation hanged suddenly. This kind of things always happen when I'm in a hurry. And you know why? Such a thing most of the time is related to hurrying!

This is a guide for windows users who want to know how to use ubuntu, I'm going to describe everything you need to know to do the usual things many people do with their computer in this series. In the end of the series I will describe some of the more complicated stuff and I'll try to mix in some easy things that will help you impress your friends.

fun with Linux: Installing ubuntu 8.10 on asus u6s dual boot with vista

I happen to have a Asus u6s for my job, I'm very very pleased with this laptop. It's a very nice portable notebook and in the European version there's a build in hsdpa wireless device. It's fast, stable, small, light weight and it looks very nice (just a little bit overdone with the leather covering). There's just one small problem with it:

windows 7 and friends will increase linux popularity

Microsoft is really going for it, they are trying to mimic the success of Linux and other operating systems which are popular on servers. They are trying to shape new windows based operating systems build for the purpose of running on embedded devices. They are trying to build windows for low end hardware and in the process they are destroying there own business model. It's obvious what is happening here:

Which is the best Linux OS?

Which is the best Linux OS? This is of course an unanswerable question, still many people ask themselves this question. Of course they do! They definitely have to. There's nothing as difficult as a world full of choice, especially if you don't happen to have a lot of knowledge about the subject. And when it comes to Linux it will well make a difference you'll carry with you for the rest of your life as a Linux user.

Why everyone should be using an Open Source operating system

gaming theory I have thought for some time that having games on windows was what kept me from using Linux. I've been a gamer for a good part of my life and it was one of the reasons i didn't know what to do with Linux. I had a console (still do, and a PSP for that matter) but the greatest games were made for PC's. A lot of people nowadays are saying "if we just had the windows games in Linux we would have a lot more users". But it's not the games that made windows big. It's the windows user base that made the windows gaming industry big! If you would develop a game and you wanted to make money, what platform would you be developing for? The platform with a small percentage of the market or the platform with the rest of the market. Difficult choice eh?

How windows anti Linux strategy will backfire in 2009

Microsoft has a strategy aimed at converting Linux/Unix users to windows, this is obvious because they are creating the tools and extensions to windows that resemble Linux. powershell I had a good laugh when I met windows powershell for the first time, it's really great. You're used to Linux command line and you always type the wrong commands in windows, and suddenly your commands start working. It was really surprising the first time this happened.

Becoming a Linux user, pitfalls and experiences

I've been a Linux user for some years now, and I've decided to start documenting the process I went trough. Today I might be seen as a Linux guru from the point of view of a starting user, from the point of view of a Linux guru I'm probably more seen as a starting user. I see myself as an intermediate, but even as my knowledge level might not be top level, On this day I do manage a business network, a few mail servers and web servers running a few hundred web sites. I do all this with relative ease and I could not have known I would be doing so much with Linux on the moment I started going down this path.
