Canonical, through Allison Randal, announced on October 21st, that the next LTS (Long Term Support) versions of the Ubuntu operating system will be supported for 5 years.

This is wonderful news, as all Ubuntu LTS releases from now on, starting with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), will be supported for 5 (five) years, instead of 3 (three) years.

Both the Desktop and Server editions of Ubuntu will be supported for 5 years, keeping the distribution updated for the latest hardware with point releases in the first 2 years.
