The Fedora Project announced yesterday, April 17th, that the Beta release of the upcoming Fedora 17 (Beefy Miracle) operating system is available for download and testing.

Fedora 17 Beta is built on top of the new GNOME 3.4 desktop environment and includes the latest GIMP 2.8 development release and Linux kernel 3.3.

Among other improvements we can mention that Firewalld is now the default firewall solution, OpenStack has been updated to version 2012.1 (Essex), OpenJDK 7 as the default Java Runtime Environment, and GCC 4.7.x as the main compiler.
