Why some vendors are moving away from open source database software licensing

While open source is a key to success for many database vendors, it can also potentially lead to a competitive threat from a cloud scale provider. Database vendors have started to use their own open source style licenses in a bid to stave off cannibalization by large cloud players such as Amazon Web Services.
