Help me name my project

A couple of days ago I told you about one of my new projects in the "Pimp your project" thread (http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/26017/): The jukebox.

Quoting:I'm writing a jukebox daemon similar to MPD, the Music Player Daemon. The biggest difference from MPD is that I want my jukebox to be aware of other jukeboxes and be able to manage multiple libraries dynamically. MPD can only manage one library. I want to make it work with Avahi/Zeroconf.

Imagine that at your job you have a jukebox daemon playing music. The employees can all carry a personal music collection on their laptops, Maemo, Linux-powered MP3 player, phone, whatever. As soon as they walk in the door, the jukebox daemon integrates those personal collections into it's own library and starts playing them. When someone leaves, their collection is removed again. Cool stuff :-)

The jukebox code is finally stabalizing a bit, so I think it's time I make a real project out of it, build a website and announce it on freshmeat et. al. However, I am stuck finding a decent name for it. I can't call it "jukebox". It's far too general.

Got any suggestions?

I love the concept and idea. Problem: on my side of the big pond a "House Party" is like a techno/rave party You know, stuff like Thunderdome with 5.000 XTC popping bald guys. Aren't there other names for the concept of "bring your own music" parties? What's it called in the UK? What did you call it when back in the 60s and 70s you'd drag your stack of vinyl to a friend's house and listen to music all day long?

Sorry, I don't like abbreviations. Acromyms on the other hand.... :-)

Well, knowing that I enjoy puns and various ways to pull off a play on words, your name has one built into it in english.

Nice. It takes the rough chaos of multiple audio collections and "sands" them into a nice smooth jukebox collection.

For their own good, I hope they don't understand it, Sander.

Anyway, if you like acronyms, may I suggest:

AudioVault? MusicVault? SongVault? Vault is not a bad synonym for the system, but it does imply "locking up" which my system doesn't do.

TuneMesh? SongMesh? I still like the "mesh" word. Especially since my system could be able to do mesh networking.

Is there a good synonym database on the internet that I could use to find alternative names?

For synonyms, try this one: http://dico.isc.cnrs.fr/dico/en/search . The graphics, though you don't need them look cool. (It was the first thing Google gave, so it _has_ to be good! Ahem)

Since it makes the other machines regurgitate their song collections,

"jukepuker" .

At the time of this post google had zero hits for this name.

You want something unique, easy to remember, and makes people curious.

BTW: In a few days Google will have indexed this thread and you'll get exactly one hit for that word. You'll have created a googlewhack :-)

OK, "jukeduker".

It dukes it out with the other machines to get their songs.

Or "jukeDuker" , DukeJuker, DukerJuke, etc.

Duke (as in the commander) of the Jukes.

I was thinking about the old FM Towns game system. I like Town, sounds like share/community/works together for something better, etc. You have something that moves with you... Travel...

Crosstown Player XTown Player

Something that says distributed but not in a 'Techie' way.

I liked XShare and Spindlebox, but they were taken according to google.

Sander:

I think that if the name of the project has something to do with your name in either the spelling, pronunciation or in combining it somehow, it could be very cool. Please keep an open mind on it, its your project, if you were an Astronomer discovering a new star, you would want to give it a name that has meaning for you, about you or about someone you love..

What about a play on words or unique combination of letters and numbers? Examples: Hi5, 2fer, 2late, 1der...
