In addition to being so successful on Kickstarter, FTL is also the recipient of several high-profile, independent games awards, in areas like ”Excellence in design”.

We are getting closer and closer to the release date of Steam For Linux, and with that release will come the hotly anticipated L4D2 for Linux!

Those of us that follow +Fedora on Google Plus got a handy dandy invitation to Fedora 18 Test Day – Power Management. On October 11th, those who have accepted this invitation are invited to use there laptops and report their experiences back to the Fedora team directly in an attempt to socially corral bugs and improve the Fedora experience.

For those of you who are chomping at the bit, biting your nails and ruthlessly washing your cars over and over again in anxious anticipation of Steam for Linux, we’ve got good news for you. Database hacker Marlamin uncovered the first evidence of a Steam for Linux build on Steam’s servers using using CDR Steam database parser. Steam’s beta carries an app id of 16549 and was uploaded just today.

Bill Allombert announced today via the Debian-devel mailing list that the X86_64 version of Debian has now surpassed all of the other supported architectures by a narrow margin. A recent episode of the Disney channel “sitcom”, Shake It Up, included a rather odd comment regarding open source software. The exchange between the youngsters essentially suggests that using open source code can lead to software being infiltrated by viruses or other malware, and being a “rookie mistake”:

Karl Fogel, board member of the Open Source Initiative and QuestionCopyright staffer, recently posted a “modest proposal” on his personal blog. Karl suggests that mobile application marketplaces, most notably on Android, should make it obvious what license an application is released under before the user installs it.

The episode begins with a short interview with Gabe Newell where he mentions ”we should have Linux and 10-foot betas out there fairly quickly”...

Netflix has released the source for Chaos Monkey under the Apache 2.0 license on the popular social programming site GitHub. GitHub is a service designed to make it easier for developers to cooperatively work on projects which are managed by the Git revision control system. This allows others to create forks of existing projects and suggest fixes and updates to the upstream developers to further develop the project.
