Redo Backup and Recovery 0.9.3 Screenshots

Redo Backup and Recovery is an easy-to-use, complete disaster recovery solution. It allows bare-metal restore, which means that even if your hard drive melts or gets completely erased by a virus, you can have a completely-functional system back up and running in as little as 10 minutes. Redo Backup and Recovery is just a GPLv3 Perl script built with a GTK2+ interface designed in Glade. It is simply a front end to partclone, which performs the actual backup and restore. The live CD is built with xPUD to provide a graphical user interface and unmodified binaries of each program, but the script will run on any Linux platform that has the required programs installed. Pinguy OS:A Ubuntu-Fork

  • Story Type: Tutorial; Groups: Ubuntu
This is a OS I have been working on since Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2. I thought it’s about time I released it and get some criticism on it.There isn’t any 32-bit version as most people should have a 64-bit processors as they have been around for for a few years now. The main reason for going with 64-bit is because it’s faster then 32-bit on the same hardware and there aren’t many programs now that don’t run on 64-bit.Ubuntu maybe easy to use but not all of the programs for it are, so all I did was listen to what people wanted and found the most user friendly programs for the task.

Unity, Ubuntu Software Center And Sound Indicator Video And Screenshots [Ubuntu / UNE 10.10 Maverick Meerkat]

  • WebUpd8; By Andrew Dickinson (Posted by hotice on Jul 13, 2010 1:55 PM EDT)
  • Groups: Ubuntu; Story Type: News Story
Unity received yet another update in Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.10 Maverick Meerkat yesterday. This version partially fixes the application search in the Unity application launcher and file browser - also known as Dash (the file search actually looks completely fixed). Also, Unity doesn't display all the files at once anymore - for this, a new toggle button was introduced for both the files and applications. I took this opportunity to record a video with Unity (along with the new AppMenu, also known as Global Menu) so WebUpd8 readers can see where Ubuntu Netbook Edition stands right now. Since I promised this when Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 2 was released, I also recorded the new Ubuntu Software Center. And finally to make this complete, you can also see the new Sound Indicator in action.

How Would OSG Work?

  • Eleven is Louder; By Bradford M. White (Posted by olefowdie on Jul 13, 2010 12:00 PM EDT)
  • Story Type: News Story
In my last post, I discussed reasons why an open source government would be a good thing. Now I will tell you my plan for how an OSG would operate (using the USA in model). It is essential to understand that this is not a left vs right issue. The idea here is simply to empower the people of any given country, and allow those people to rule their own lives. Using the same methodology we use in open source software development (slightly modified), we can achieve that one simple goal.

Unstaging Files in the Open Source Software, Git

Occasionally, when using the version control system Git, you may find yourself committing a file you didn't intend to. For example, you might want to commit two files separately, with different log messages (making it easier to roll back unconnected changes separately), but accidentally use the usually helpful shortcut git commit -a and commit both at once.
