Kalango Linux 3.2 Screenshot Tour

DistroWatch reports - Kalango Linux is a nicely designed Brazilian distribution based on Debian and Kurumin. After some seven months in development, version 3.2 was announced yesterday. The new release includes Linux kernel 2.6.11, OpenOffice.org 2.0, KDE 3.4.3, GNOME 2.10, as well as a number of popular applications, such as the amaroK media player, K3b CD/DVD burning utility, Azureus BitTorrent client, GIMP graphics manipulation software, Inkscape vector drawing application, Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email client.

Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake) daily builds have hit the Ubuntu servers. Dapper's goals: Substantial polish and integration, software discovery and installation, make network-wide enterprise updates easy to manage, consider LSB and related certification standards and support for deployment of Dapper on mission-critical servers. Damn Small Linux 2.0 RC2 Screenshot Tour

DistroWatch reports - The second release candidate of Damn Small Linux 2.0 is now available for download and testing. From the release notes: Added more base timezones; enhanced LT modem detection; corrected myDSL menu with persistent home usage; updated kernel with SATA module support; enhanced Siag external load to use wget; enhanced German keyboard support; added a minimal version of Joe's Window Manager (see F3 at boot); enhanced Firefox for more mime types and Java; added GtkFind utility. DistroWatch reports - Getting closer to the 1.0 release, the developers of PC-BSD have announced the first release candidate of the user-friendly operating system based on FreeBSD: PC-BSD 1.0 release candidate 1 is now available! This release is 'feature complete', for what was planned for the 1.0 version, and includes many enhancements and bug fixes over previous versions. It is also the first desktop based on FreeBSD 6.0.

You can convert a room full of machines running Windows into a Linux cluster, and when you shut down, your Windows machines are in their original state.

DistroWatch reports - Kaella is, effectively, a French edition of the popular KNOPPIX live CD. After many weeks of testing, version 2.1 has now been released for download. The new version is based on the CD edition of KNOPPIX 4.0.2, but it comes with OpenOffice.org 2.0.0, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 1.0.7, and a corrected French language module for KDE.

Debian text based installer getting the boot

The Debian Weekly News for October 25th, 2005 discusses the upcoming graphical frontend to the debian-installer as part of the most recent minutes of the monthly Debian Installer team meeting. It appears that after all of these years the text based Debian installation is finally getting the boot.

BeleniX LiveCD 0.2 Screenshot Tour

Belenix.sarovar.org states - BeleniX is a *NIX distribution that is built using the OpenSolaris source base. It is currently a LiveCD distribution but is intended to grow into a complete distro that can be installed to hard disk. Version 0.2 of BeleniX has been released and it is now a LiveCD that can boot into a Graphical XFce4 desktop and provides a bunch of useful applications.

X.Org has been updated to X.Org 6.9cvs. Approximately 400 package update brings PCLinuxOS .92 up to date with the latest open source applications....
