Dubuntu is a Chinese GNU/Linux operation system based on Ubuntu Linux 6.06. The goal of this new distribution is to provide a Linux environment focused on software development, with nice desktop evironment. OSDir has some nice shots of Dubuntu 6.06 in the Dubuntu 6.06 Screenshot Tour.

Wiki.freespire.org quietly reported - This is the second BETA release of Freespire (Build 0.0.76). This is the main installation CD for our community-driven, Debian-based Linux distribution which legally supports (or has one-click access to support): MP3, DVD, Windows Media, QuickTime, Java, Flash, Real, ATI drivers, nVidia drivers, Adobe Acrobat Reader, proprietary WiFi drivers, fonts, and so on. Mepis.org reports - MEPIS has released SimplyMEPIS 6.0. This is the first public release of SimplyMEPIS to incorporate an Ubuntu foundation. Based on the Dapper LTS package pool, 6.0 is designed for stable long term use and support. Warren Woodford of MEPIS said - Converting MEPIS to the Ubuntu pool while incorporating the latest Open Source software advances has taken several months, but it's been worth the effort. The Ubuntu team did a great job with the development of Dapper LTS. During the building of 6.0, we've enjoyed an unprecedented response from testers in the MEPIS community. Their bug reports and insights have been a big help. This appears to be the best version of SimplyMEPIS to date. Enjoy! Only 50 days after Dapper Drake (6.06) - on July 20, Mark Shuttleworth and his Canonical engineering team introduced their newest creation, Ubuntu 6.10 Knot-1, code-named "Edgy Eft."

Shuttleworth explained on the Ubuntu users' list why he chose the unusual name.

"Edgy is all about cutting edge, perhaps bleeding edge, brand new code and infrastructure. It will be the right time to bring in some seriously interesting but definitely edgy new technologies which lay the groundwork for the next wave of Ubuntu development," Shuttleworth wrote.

DistroWatch reports - The Dreamlinux Project Team announced version 2.0 of Dreamlinux, a Brazilian Linux distribution based on the XFce desktop: called WORKS and it brings the most known Linux apps for a production environment, like OpenOffice, Inkscape, Gimp, etc..., and the version 2.5 of MKDistro, tool for distros' building. This Dreamlinux version is the result of making use of various technologies that came from many different distros, like Kanotix, Elive, Morphix and Debian. OSNews reports - Since yesterday (July 16, 2006), .iso downloads for SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop/Server 10 have been available from Novell's download page. After seeking confirmation from Novell's Nat Friedman, we can confirm these are indeed the final releases. SLED 10 is available for x86 and x86-64, while SLES 10 can be obtained for x86, AMD64/EM64T, PPC, IBM Power, Itanium, and IBM's zSeries. OSNews reports - Kevin Carmony of Linspire/Freespire has announced that the first beta of Freespire has been released earlier than anticipated. Get it from the download page. According to Carmony, this release includes out-of-the-box support for proprietary formats such as .mp3 and WMV, plug-and-play support for Ati and nVIDIA cards without user intervention, Click-N-Run, and much more. DistroWatch reports - The first development ISO images of Mandriva Linux 2007 have been released for download and testing. At the time of writing only Mandriva One live CD images for the i586 and x86_64 architectures are available, but expect the usual full (4-CD) installation sets to appear on Mandriva mirrors in a day or two. The new release ships with kernel 2.6.16.20 and includes glibc 2.4, X.Org 7.1, KDE 3.5.3, GNOME 2.15, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, Firefox 1.5.0.4 and many other open source software packages.
