Someone commented on the article about Google Chrome’s FTP client that they almost thought it was a joke because there was no RSS feed handler in Google Chrome.

Well if that article was a joke this one must be, too.

Because it’s the operating system I’ve been using on my desktop for the past 6 years. I don’t always get everything right (after all, I AM NOT A TECHNICAL WRITER), but I like to think that I at least help some people ease the transition between Linux and Windows. I don’t write for system administrators but for the common public. With this in mind, I try to make things as easy as possible to understand. That may mean skipping over some technical details, but that’s ok. The new user doesn’t need to become a system administrator to run Linux on their desktop.

According to Distrowatch, Chakra GNU/Linux is a Live CD distribution aimed at ease of use and originally forked from Arch Linux. Some of its features include a graphical installer, automatic hardware detection and configuration, the latest KDE desktop, and a variety of tools and “extras”.

This is a script that will install Global Menu in Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 Shell.

A while back I did a review on Bodhi Linux. There were some implications that I didn’t take a close enough look at the operating system, and I have to agree. So here’s a follow up to the original review on Bodhi Linux.

Bodhi Linux was recommended to me as a possible solution to try after I mentioned having system resource issues with Ubuntu One. I have to admit I’ve been rather curious about Bodhi as I have read several rave reviews on it.

For the time being, I was quite happy on Mandrake and even upgraded to a more recent version of Mandriva. After a while though (approximately 6 months) I started getting curious about other distributions, especially when other Linux users talked about how one needed to find the “right” distribution for themselves. I wondered if Mandriva was really the “right” distribution for me or if I just liked it because it was the first distribution I had experienced.

By default, Gnome 3 in Fedora 15 doesn’t leave you with much screen real estate with its huge title bar and persistent menu bar. These settings certainly don’t like the tiny 10 inch screen of my netbook. But with a little tweaking, you can remove the title bar and auto hide the menu bar, maximizing your screen real estate like my screenshot below (yes, that is my WHOLE screen):

Ailurus is a great little program to add on to a fresh installation of Fedora 15. I would compare it to something along the lines of Ubuntu Tweak, in which the user is presented with a set of clean up tasks, system information, a package manager, and even a good solid set of repositories to choose from. I only wish I had found it a little earlier than I did as it would have made adding the initial repositories a breeze when I first installed Fedora 15.

I never realized how "soft" Ubuntu had made me until I tried switching to Fedora. You know, I’ve been with Ubuntu for a long time, ever since Breezy, back when you still had to configure your own drivers, back when it was more “plug and pray” than plug and play. Coming from Mandriva, I learned a lot about Linux back then when I switched to Ubuntu. I thought that once I started getting adept that was the last of my worries… Boy, was I wrong.
